The Tennessee Small Business Development Center (TSBDC) network headquartered at Middle Tennessee State University is proud to announce it has chosen Chattanooga State Community College center managing director, Sharyn Moreland, as the recipient of the 2015 State Star Award. The annual award recognizes a top performer from each state SBDC network who demonstrates a strong commitment to small business and makes significant contributions to the state network.

“The Tennessee Small Business Development Center program is celebrating over 30 years of providing Tennessee businesses with a wide range of business counseling and training services. Each year we recognize individuals in our statewide organization who demonstrate excellence and a sincere commitment to helping our business men and women succeed in business. Sharyn Moreland, our TSBDC director at Chattanooga, has been named as our State Star,” said Dr. Patrick Geho, State Executive Director – TSBDC Lead Center at Middle Tennessee State University.

Since 2011, Moreland has introduced many new innovative programs and brought new resources to the area to assist in economic growth.

“I am extremely honored to accept this award on behalf of the entire Chattanooga State TSBDC staff and our valued sponsors, partners, volunteers and Advisory Board. Developing strong community partnerships that help trigger and maintain strong economic growth in our region has been critical to the Center’s success and will continue to be a focus of our efforts. I am excited that we continue to make significant progress in aligning new partnerships that will make the Center even more relevant in the communities we serve while driving goal attainment. Our goals continue to be job creation, job retention and capital infusion which are achieved through quality counseling and training.”

Moreland will be recognized at a special awards reception honoring the 2015 State Stars on September 8, in San Francisco, California, in conjunction with the America’s Small Business Development Center Network (ASBDC) 35th National Conference.
