MotusX is a team of three local physical therapists; Sonya Briggs, Nikki Orazine, and Shehla Rooney. Collectively, the three have nearly 50 years experience in the physical therapy field. MotusX is built on the belief that “Movement is Medicine,” and offers a variety of services such as functional movement assessments, cupping, dry needling, one-on-one movement training, and physical therapy services to help patients improve their health and functional levels.

MotusX has also developed a revolutionary tool that will help knee replacement patients on the road to recovery in half the time. The GoKneeTM is currently patent-pending, and is used by patients to restore range of motion and mobility in their knee. MotusX has used the GoKneeTM on about 50 patients over the last year and been collecting the results. There are an average of 700,000 total knee replacements performed per year in the nation, and with traditional physical therapy alone it can take 4 to 6 weeks to regain mobility and range of motion. The use of the GoKneeTM and its protocol developed by MotusX has seen that time cut to two weeks.
When MotusX was researching help with the patenting process, they found the Small Business Development Center at Tennessee Tech. They knew their device was helping people, but they didn’t know how to start the business properly, or market the device. MotusX and the center director, Jen Dangelo, have met faithfully every two weeks for the past year, working on all aspects of their business – including pricing, market segmentation and penetration, business structure, product delivery avenues, and print and digital marketing.

The MotusX team believes the Cookeville SBDC & Jen have been instrumental in the progression of our business this past year. They said, “Without her help, knowledge and guidance, we have no idea where we would be at this stage. Her ability to keep us on track and focus on what’s important and relevant at the time to ensure our business continued to grow and develop has been crucial to our success. We have come to cherish our bi-weekly meetings because of the knowledge that she imparts and because of the vantage point she can provide that is so unique from ours. Given that our backgrounds are in healthcare and not business, she has been an invaluable resource that we are forever grateful for.”

The GoKneeTM is now available to the public for purchase, and is also being used in select physical therapy offices across the Upper Cumberland. Further testing to prove the product’s results is being conducted by student-led teams at Belmont University.

Without her help, knowledge and guidance, we have no idea where we would be at this stage. Her ability to keep us on track and focus on what’s important and relevant at the time to ensure our business continued to grow and develop has been crucial to our success. We have come to cherish our bi-weekly meetings because of the knowledge that she imparts and because of the vantage point she can provide that is so unique from ours.
