Angel Carrier came to the Tennessee Small Business Development Center at Volunteer State Community College in the fall of 2013.  Ms. Carrier wanted to open a specialty coffee shop in rural Westmoreland, TN.  She wanted to discuss the necessary steps to open a business in Tennessee, create a business plan and financial projections, and possibly obtain financing.

The TSBDC worked continuously with Ms. Carrier to create an extensive business plan and financial projections.

Ms. Carrier opened the Tennessee Pour House in the spring of 2014.  She used the business plan and projections to self-finance and hire employees.

After creating a following and reaching break-even, Ms. Carrier decided to move the business to Gallatin in 2015, to reach a larger population.  The TSBDC assisted her in location analysis and marketing in a new area.

Tennessee Pour House has expanded into a breakfast and lunch menu that provides a multitude of organic and vegan options, as well as, hosting events.

Tennessee Pour House is the premier coffee establishment of Middle Tennessee, providing fresh roasted, ethically sourced, fair trade coffee from around the world. When you purchase coffee with this integrity based background, you become a valuable part of the global picture. Together, we are “creating community, one cup at a time.”  The business capital infusion was $42,500 with three new jobs.

The TSBDC at Volunteer State Community College has been a great resource in helping us start and grow our business!  We have been able to use them to write a successful business plan and even move our business.  We sincerely appreciate the support we receive from the TSBDC!
